A checklist is a short list that gets a new user to their first real win. It sits on your page as a small panel the visitor can open, and each item either starts one of your tours or ticks itself when the visitor does the thing.
Checklists live alongside tours. Go to Product Tours in the sidebar, then the Checklists tab, and click New checklist.
Write the header
The Checklist title (up to 60 characters) and description (up to 140) are what the visitor sees at the top of the panel. Keep the title short, since it also shows when the list is collapsed.
Both fields accept merge tags, so you can greet people by name: User ID, User Name, User Email, Subscribed, Country and Language are available from the toolbar.
Add your items
Click Add item. Each item has a Title (up to 80 characters) and a Description (up to 160). A checklist can hold up to 25 items, but a short list works better than a long one — pick the few things that actually matter in the first session.
Each item has two separate settings, and it is worth being clear about the difference between them.
Clicking this item decides what happens when the visitor clicks it. Choose Runs a tour and pick one of your tours. The tour starts on the page the visitor is already on; if that tour is restricted to other pages by its own page rules, it waits until they get there.
Ticks itself when decides what marks the item done:
They finish that tour — completing the tour ticks the item.
They reach a page — enter the page they should get to.
Your code reports it — your own code confirms the action succeeded.
These two are independent on purpose. An item can run a tour that explains how to invite a teammate, but only tick when a teammate is actually invited. That is usually what you want: the point is the action, not the explanation.
Check how it looks
The panel on the right shows the real checklist. Switch between Open panel and Collapsed pill to see both states, because most visitors see the collapsed one first.
Decide who sees it and where
On the Targeting tab:
Run window — optional Starts at and Ends at dates.
Priority — which one wins if more than one could show.
User Segmentation — limit it to a segment. With no rules, every visitor the page rules match will see it.
Page Rules — limit where it shows. With no rules, it can appear on any page of your site.
How it appears — a floating pill on the page.
When a visitor closes it — whether it comes back after they dismiss it.
Progress is per user, so identify your users
Checklist progress is stored against the identified user, not the browser. That is what lets the list survive a reload and come back, still half-ticked, the next time they sign in — including on a different device.
It also means a visitor you do not identify cannot carry progress with them. If you are not already passing user details to the widget, do that before you rely on checklists, or people will see a fresh empty list every time.
Publish and measure
Click Publish when it is ready. The Results tab shows how many people started the list and how many finished it, and the checklist list shows the same at a glance. A low completion rate with a high start rate usually means one specific item is too hard — check which one people stop at before rewriting the whole list.
