The monthly archive lets your visitors filter your feed by month, so they can see everything you shipped in a given month without scrolling through the rest.
Where this setting lives depends on which page layout your feed uses, and the two layouts present it differently, so check which one you are on first.
Which layout is my feed on?
Open your Feed settings and look at the Page layout control at the top of the panel. It shows either Classic or Modern. You can also tell from your live page: Modern has a row of tabs across the top for Changelog, Roadmap, Feature Requests and Knowledge Base, and Classic does not.
Modern layout
- Go to Settings, then Feed Settings, and click Theme Designer at the top right.
- Expand the Changelog section.
- Scroll to What visitors can use and turn on Filter by date.
- Click Save.
A date dropdown appears next to the search bar on your feed, set to "All time". Opening it lists every month you have published in, and picking one filters the feed to that month.
Classic layout
On Classic the archive appears as a list of months in your feed's sidebar, so the sidebar needs to be switched on for it to have anywhere to appear.
- Go to Settings, then Feed Settings, and click Theme Designer at the top right.
- Expand the Sidebar section.
- Check that Sidebar side is set to Left or Right. If it is set to Off, the archive has nowhere to display and the setting below will not appear.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Sidebar section, past the search options, to the Archive heading.
- Untick Hide archive.
- Click Save.
This checkbox works in reverse to what you might expect. Ticked means the archive is hidden, so leave it unticked to show it.
Grouping your posts by month instead
Classic has a separate option that splits the feed itself into month headings rather than adding a filter. It is in the Updates section, as a checkbox called Group by month. You can use both together.
If you still cannot see it
- Check you clicked Save. The preview updates live as you change settings, but your feed does not until you save.
- On Classic, check the sidebar is not set to Off.
- If all your posts fall in one month, the archive will only have one entry.
